BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Feb 2 (NNN-ANN) – Brunei will host the 15th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Defence Minister’s Meeting (ADMM), and the 8th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus), to be held virtually from June 15 to 16.
ADMM is ASEAN’s highest defence consultative and cooperative mechanism. Held among defence ministers from the 10 ASEAN member countries, and the Secretary General of ASEAN, the meeting aims to promote mutual trust and confidence, through a greater understanding of defence and security challenges, as well as, enhancement of transparency and openness.
The ADMM-Plus is a platform for ASEAN and its eight dialogue partners — namely Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, Russia and the United States — to strengthen security and defence cooperation for facilitating peace, stability, and development in the region. The inaugural ADMM-Plus was convened in Hanoi, in Oct, 2010.
According to the report, as chair of the ADMM for 2021, Brunei’s defence ministry will host this year’s meetings virtually, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.– NNN-ANN
