KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, Feb 28 (NNN-AGENCIES) – Malaysia’s producer price index for local production, dropped 3.6 percent year-on-year in Jan, official data showed today (Thursday).
Malaysian Statistics Department, said that the decline was led by the index of agriculture, forestry and fishery, which slumped 14 percent; mining that fell 8.4 percent; manufacturing and water supply, which contracted 2.3 percent and one percent, respectively.
Meanwhile, the index of electricity and gas supply edged up by 2.2 percent.
On monthly basis, the producer price index for local production rose 0.6 percent, when compared to 1.3 percent decline in Dec, last year.
The increase was supported by the index on agriculture, forestry and fishery, which was up 7.2 percent; mining that rose 1.8 percent; electricity and gas supply which increased by 0.3 percent.
However, the index of water supply and manufacturing decreased 1.7 percent and 0.1 percent, respectively.– NNN-AGENCIES
