JERUSALEM, Jan 21 (NNN-MA’AN) – Israeli authorities issued tenders for 2,572 new housing units, in the occupied West Bank and annexed East Jerusalem, an Israeli settlement watchdog said yesterday.
The tenders include some 2,112 new homes in the West Bank, and additional 460 new homes in East Jerusalem, Peace Now, an Israeli human rights group that monitors the settlements, said, in a statement.
Additional tenders were issued for the construction of industry and commerce buildings, Peace Now said.
The tenders were published online on Tuesday, by the housing ministry and the Israel Land Authority, a government agency in charge of managing lands in Israel.
The settlements are located in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, both are territories captured by Israel, in the 1967 Middle East war and where the Palestinians wish to build their future state. Shortly after the war, Israel annexed East Jerusalem, claiming it part of its capital.
Most of the international community has never recognised the annexation.– NNN-MA’AN
