Mexico to Have Operational National Guard in March

MEXICO CITY, Feb 27 (NNN-Prensa Latina) — Mexico”s National Guard can begin operations in mid-March, Public Safety and Citizen Protection Secretary Alfonso Durazo told journalists Wednesday.

He informed that as soon as the legislative process concludes, two teams have already been formed to begin the budgetary and administrative process of this new corporation, as well as for the transition of the Federal Police to be absorbed by the entity.

Durazo said they are working parallel to the legislative process because they are running against the clock and the intention is that the day after the approval in the 17 local congresses begins immediately to operate.

He also considered it necessary to retake the recruitment of the new elements, a call suspended after ‘we received criticism of our anticipation.

He estimated if everything progresses as the House of Representatives advances, we could have the approval of the 17 regional congresses in mid-March and then the approval of the secondary laws, all in parallel, because there is no time to lose.

He explained that at the moment there are two working teams operating: one legislative to develop the entire process of creating the Guard, and another budgetary and administrative.

On the other hand, a commission operates within the Federal Police to propose the transition program, and from Wednesday to Thursday we will present to the Executive the work plan to allow them to build the National Guard from now on. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
