Belarus’ BelGee to Produce Electric Cars

MINSK, Jan 14 (NNN-BelTA) — The car factory BelGee will study the demand for electric cars and will embark on their production, Industry Minister Piotr Parkhomchik said on Belarus 1 TV channel.

“The production of electric vehicles in Belarus is a very important matter. We reached an agreement that from 500 to 1,000 electric vehicles will be delivered to our country in 2021, so that we will study demand, understand the market capacity, and prepare for production of such cars,” Piotr Parkhomchik said.

Electric vehicles will be here by the second half of the year. The matter is still on the agenda. I think that consumers should expect to see Belarus-made electric vehicles on the market,” he added.

According to him, 2020 was the best year in the history of BelGee.

“It is very important that we shipped 13,000 cars for export (though the plan was 11,000). We also did well in Belarus thanks to our banks that offered very good terms to purchase these cars. All in all, over 22,500 cars were sold or shipped,” the minister said.

The car factory BelGee was solemnly inaugurated on Nov 17, 2017. It is located between Borisov and Zhodino and occupies 118ha.

Geely cars of Belarusian make are certified for compliance with technical regulations of the Customs Union and have been tested using EuroNCAP methods (the tests include frontal impact, side impact, and other kinds).
