JAKARTA, Jan 12 (NNN-ANTARA) — Indonesian Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, has asked that the insurance payout for victims of the Sriwijaya Air plane crash be granted quickly.
He said that he had received information on Tuesday morning (Jan 12, 2021) that the insurance payout had been provided for a Sriwijaya Air flight attendant who had been identified.
The Transportation Minister also said he had asked Sriwijaya Air to provide full support to the National Police Hospital in efforts to identify the victims of the Sriwijaya Air SJ-182 crash.
“I have asked Sriwijaya Air to provide full support without being asked; what is needed by the National Police Hospital should be immediately supported,” he added.
Operational director of PT Jasa Raharja, Amos Sampetoding, said the insurer had handed over the compensation to the heirs of one victim of the plane crash whose body had been identified by the DVI team at the National Police Hospital.
According to him, Jasa Raharja officers across Indonesia are on standby for further announcements on the identification process carried out by the DVI team.
“We are already on standby, if there is an announcement from the DVI team at the Police Hospital, so that we can hand over compensation to the victims’ heirs (as) soon (as possible),” he explained.
The Sriwijaya Air flight SJ-182 is believed to have crashed shortly after take-off in the waters between Laki Island and Lancang Island in Thousands Islands, or 11 nautical miles from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang in suburban Jakarta.
The Transportation Ministry has confirmed that airport authorities lost contact with the flight serving the Jakarta-Pontianak route around 2.40 pm on Saturday (Jan 9, 2021).
According to the ministry, the Boeing 737-500 jet, bearing the registration number PK-CLC, made last contact at a position 11 nautical miles north of the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, after crossing an altitude of 11 thousand feet and while climbing to 13 thousand feet.
The plane took off from the Soekarno-Hatta Airport at 2.40 pm local time on Saturday, and was scheduled to land at the Supadio Airport in Pontianak, West Kalimantan, at 3.50 pm
Based on the manifest, the plane was carrying 50 passengers and 12 crew members. There were 40 adults, seven children, and three babies on board the flight.
