MARAN (Pahang, Malaysia), Jan 5 (Bernama) — The King, Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, Tuesday visited flood victims at the relief centre at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Maran 1, Pahang, here.
Accompanying His Majesty were the Queen, Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah and their son, Tengku Panglima Muda Tengku Ahmad Ismail Mu’adzam Shah.
Present to greet the arrival of Their Majesties at about noon were the Regent of Pahang, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah and Pahang state chief minister Wan Rosdi Wan Ismail.
Al-Sultan Abdullah, in His Majesty’s speech, advised flood evacuees at the centre to always comply with the stipulated standard operating procedures (SOP) to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
“Although , we are in a difficult situation (because of the floods), it is a test, and my concern is, if the SOP is not observed, then there will be problems for all of us (if the virus spread).
“In this flood situation, especially at the relief (evacuation) centre, everyone must comply with the SOP. I pray the situation here continues to improve,” said His Majesty after being briefed on the flood situation by the Maran District Disaster Management Committee.
His Majesty also told staff of agencies in managing the flood disaster to play their respective roles to monitor the health of flood victims at the centre.
Apart from that, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong also expressed his appreciation and gratitude to all the frontline personnel who have been working hard in managing the disaster.
His Majesty spent some time with the evacuees and handed over some contributions to them.
Meanwhile, Al-Sultan Abdullah drove himself from Istana Negara (National Palace) to the relief centre in a convoy that waded through the flood water which still covered the stretch at KM 113 of the East Coast Expressway 1 (LPT1).
As at noon Tuesday, a total of 252 relief centres have been opened in Pahang to accommodate 18,579 victims from 4,814 families.
