Landing Craft Capsizes In Strait Of Hormuz, Seven Missing: Media

TEHRAN, Dec 27 (NNN-ISNA) – A landing craft capsized in the Strait of Hormuz and seven people on board went missing.

The vessel overturned, 25 miles (42.2 km) southeast of Iran’s Lark Island, in the Strait of Hormuz and efforts are underway to save the seven people, Esmail Makizadeh, deputy of Maritime Affairs of Iran’s Hormozgan Ports and Navigation, was quoted as saying.

On Friday evening, the Hormozgan province’s Marine Search and Rescue Centre received a message about the emergency situation for the Landing Craft, said Makizadeh.

Immediately after receiving the message, a lifeguard vessel was sent to the area and necessary coordination were made with other Iranian maritime units, as well as, passing vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, he said.

However, due to unfavourable weather conditions and darkness, the operation only got started yesterday morning, and the search and rescue operators located the capsized watercraft on the southeast of Lark Island, Makizadeh was quoted as saying.

“We are trying to find the missing people by mobilising all facilities and forces, as well as, informing passing vessels and the search and rescue centres of Oman, the United Arab Emirates and Pakistan,” he said.– NNN-IRNA
