Sri Lanka To Face Heavy Rains, Severe Lightning

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka, Feb 26 (NNN-SL NEWS) – Sri Lanka will face heavy rains and severe lightning over several districts of the island country today (Tuesday), the Meteorology Department said, in its latest weather update.

Very heavy falls of above 150 millimetres can be expected in Ratnapura, in south central Sri Lanka, and the Kalutara, Galle and Matara districts, in the south.

Heavy falls of about 100 millimetres can be expected in Uva and the central provinces and in Kegalle, in the Sabaragamuwa Province, Gampaha, in the outskirts of the capital, Colombo, Hambantota, in the island’s south and the Colombo district.

Severe lightning will also occur in the Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Western and Uva provinces.

“There may be temporary localised strong winds during thundershowers. The public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by lightning activity,” the Meteorology Department said.

Kurunegala, in the north-western province, will face maximum temperature of 35.4 degrees Celsius, while the central highlands of Nuwara Eliya will face the minimum temperature of 11.2 degrees Celsius.– NNN-SL NEWS
