TEHRAN, Dec 26 (NNN-ISNA) – Two climbers lost their lives, after falling from a cliff, in the north of Tehran, and another one was severely injured, an official at Iran’s Mountaineering and Sport Climbing Federation, said.
“Three people were injured in a fall along the Kolakchal trail, two of whom died instantly and a third one had a cold stroke,” Hamid Masaedian, head of the Rescue Department at the federation said.
The cause of the fall was excessive cold and the ice in the mountain trail, the official elaborated.
In a separate incident, also yesterday, the head of Tehran’s Red Crescent Committee, Shahin Fathi, declared that several people were trapped by snow in the Darabad highlands, northeast of Iran’s capital, and a rapid reaction team was dispatched to rescue them.
Fathi further said, an avalanche was registered in Ahar, some 50 km north of Tehran, and a rapid reaction and relief team has been sent to the area, where one person might have been trapped in the snow.
Heavy snow was expected in much of Iran’s north and northeast regions, according to official news agency IRNA, and several roads have been closed in Razavi Khorasan, North Khorasan, Semnan, and Golestan provinces.– NNN-ISNA
