LIMA, Dec 23 (Bernama) — Peru’s interest in Asia is very much reciprocated, further underlined by the figures at the close of the third quarter of 2020. According to SUNAT (Peru’s National Superintendency of Customs and Tax Administration), Peruvian agricultural exports to Asia amounted to US$ 507 million between January and October this year, representing an increase of 3.1% compared to the same period last year.
Exports of fresh fruit and vegetables to Asia reached US$ 320 million, accounting for 10% of Peru’s total fruit and vegetable exports worldwide. The main products exported to Asia were fresh grapes (US$ 109 million); fresh cranberries (US$ 90 million); avocados (US$ 69 million) and fresh mandarins (US$ 18 million). The South American country has become an international benchmark in the production of agri-food products in recent decades and is the world’s biggest exporter of cranberries, asparagus and quinoa; the second biggest exporter of mandarins; the third of avocados, and the fifth of table grapes.
