SRINAGAR, Dec 14 (NNN-PTI) – Two militants were killed yesterday, in a fierce gunfight with government forces, in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, a police official said.

The gunfight between the two sides broke out at the Poshana area, in frontier Poonch district, about 170 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

“A fierce gunfight triggered today (yesterday), in Poshana area of Poonch, during which two militants were killed. One of their associates was arrested,” the police official said. “The identities of the slain militants are being ascertained.”

According to police, government forces have not suffered any damage in the stand-off.

Officials said, government forces cordoned off the area on specific intelligence information, suggesting the presence of militants.

A guerilla war is going on between militants and Indian troopers stationed in the region since 1989. Gunfights between the two sides take place intermittently across the region.– NNN-PTI
