ABUJA, Dec 6 (NNN-XINHUA) – Three policemen have been confirmed killed, after a boat carrying police officers capsized in Nigeria’s southern region, said local authorities, yesterday.
The accident occurred on Friday, ahead of a by-election in two senatorial zones, in the Ijaw local government area of Bayelsa State, in the country’s South-South region.
Bayelsa police spokesman, Asinim Butswat, told Xinhua that the deceased police officers were deployed to polling centres, and on their way to their place of assignment, when the boat carrying them capsized.
The number of police officers involved in the accident is yet to be ascertained, Butswat said, adding, an investigation is underway.– NNN-XINHUA
