Thailand’s Jasmine Rice Wins Championship For World’s Best Rice Contest

BANGKOK, Dec 5 (NNN-TNA) – The Thai Rice Exporters Association, announced that, Thailand’s jasmine rice 105 variety, has been named the world’s best-tasting rice this year, at the 12th Rice Trader World Rice Conference 2020, in the United States.

The contest was held virtually from Tuesday to Thursday, said the association.

The annual conference also included a best-rice contest, and the 105 jasmine variety was added to the line-up this year by the Thai Rice Exporters Association.

The 105 variety won on all criteria, namely smell, taste, texture and shape, in a blind test conducted by the judges.

Thailand’s jasmine rice 105 variety is generated from a volatile matter called 2-acetyl-1-pyroline.

However to maintain its fragrance, the rice has to be kept in cool places at around 15 degrees Celsius.
