Pakistan Seeks Religious Scholars’ Help In COVID-19 Prevention

ISLAMABAD, Dec 5 (NNN-APP) – Pakistani leaders are seeking help from the country’s religious scholars, to encourage people to follow precautionary measures, to control the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Pakistani Prime Minister, Imran Khan, advised Minister for Religious Affairs, Noor-ul-Haq Qadri, to share fresh data about the COVID-19 cases, so they could urge the people, in sermons, to follow the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), the prime minister’s office said.

The prime minister directed the Ministry of Religious Affairs to remain in touch with religious scholars, adding, mosques will not be closed in any situation but the people would be advised to follow the COVID-19 SOPs, a statement from the prime minister’s office said.

Khan suggested involvement of religious scholars to control COVID-19, in view of an increase in positive cases in the county.

As part of efforts to seek help from the religious leaders, Pakistani President, Arif Alvi, invited the country’s religious leaders to explore ways to convince the public to strictly follow the SOPs.

The president’s office said, the scholars assured strict adoption of precautionary measures at mosques. The SOPs about mosques included proper distance among worshippers, disinfecting carpets and floors, ablution at homes before coming to mosques and bringing own prayer rugs.

The president said, mosques have an important role in raising awareness among community members regarding the importance of COVID-19 SOPs.– NNN-APP
