SONGKHLA, Dec 4 (Bernama) — The floods in southern Thailand have claimed the lives of three people and affected about 261,253 families in nine provinces.
Heavy rain lashed the provinces of Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Trang, Songkhla, Pattani, Narathiwat, Satun and Yala since Nov 25.
Nakhon Si Thammarat is the worst-hit province.
Its governor Kraisorn Wisitwong said all 23 districts in the province were hit by floods which had affected about 500,000 people.
In this regard, government spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri said Prime Minister Prayuth Chan o-cha had instructed the relevant agencies and local authorities to continue monitoring flood-prone areas.
“The prime minister wants the authorities to expedite the aid process and the evacuation of flood victims,” he said in a statement.
