TEHRAN, Iran, Feb 24 (NNN-IRNA) – Iran will continue working with Syria to counter Israeli threats, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Ali Shamkhani, said on Saturday.
In an interview with Tasnim news agency, Shamkhani explicated Iran’s plans to help the Syrian government, in the battle against terrorism and to fight off the Israeli attacks on Syrian territories.
“Iran believes that such attacks by Israel on Syria are meant to help the terrorists,” Shamkhani was quoted as saying.
“Israel is clearly taking steps to serve the interests of terrorists, and to counter the Syrian government and army,” he said, adding, Israel has also “crossed the red line” by targeting the equipment and forces of Iran and the resistance front, in a series of strikes against Syria.
Shamkhani said, however, the Israeli attacks have failed to block the achievement of the resistance’s front in Syria, noting that, “we have accomplished more than 90 percent of our objectives. Thus, the Israeli punitive strikes (on Syria) have had no strategic impact.”
“We have made arrangements to protect our red line and human resources, in cooperation with the Syrian army,” Shamkhani said.
“Iran is confident that Israel would not seek a war in the Syrian northern fronts because it is too weak in that region,” he added.
Iran says, it deployed military advisers to Syria at the request of the Damascus government.– NNN-IRNA
