Myanmar Military Seizes Large Haul Of Narcotic Drugs This Year

YANGON, Nov 28 (NNN-MNA) – The Myanmar military seized a large haul of narcotic drugs, which were worth 837 billion kyats (634.09 million U.S. dollars), in the first 11 months of this year, a military spokesperson, said.

The military confiscated over 921 kg of heroin, 21,139 kg of methamphetamine, 237.5 million stimulant tablets and others, as of Nov 24, Brigadier General Zaw Min Tun of the Military True News Information Team, said.

The military also seized 1,953 tonnes of illegal timber worth over 4.65 billion kyats (3.52 million U.S. dollars), from Oct 17 to Nov 24, as part of measures to protect natural resources from illicit trafficking.

As part of operations to strengthen the rule of law within Myanmar territorial waters, the navy recently seized illegal logs laden by 12 vessels, along with 61 suspects in the sea near Taungup township of western Rakhine state, he said.– NNN-MNA
