DHAKA, Nov 18 (NNN-BSS) – Bangladesh’s highest economic policy-making body, yesterday, approved a mega rural development project worth over 59 billion taka (696.53 million U.S. dollars).
The project was approved at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC), chaired by Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina.
After the meeting, Senior Secretary of the Planning Division, Md Ashadul Islam, told journalists that, the 59.05 billion taka project is to conserve rural road network system, by rehabilitating roads, bridges and culverts affected by cyclone, rain and flood.
He said, the project with the entire government fund, will be implemented by Dec, 2023.
Bangladeshi Planning Commission Member, Md Zakir Hossain Akand, briefed journalists about the details of the rural Bangladesh development project, saying that the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), under the government’s Local Government Division, will implement the project, titled “Rehabilitation of rural road infrastructures affected, due to cyclone Amphan and Flood.”
He said, the project will be implemented in 355 sub-districts, under the country’s 55 out of 64 districts.
According to officials, the project aims at reducing transportation cost and time, through sustainable road maintenance across the country.– NNN-BSS
