Asia-Pacific Countries Report More COVID-19 Cases, Deaths

HONG KONG, Nov 17 (NNN-XINHUA) – Confirmed COVID-19 cases and deaths continued to climb in Asia-Pacific, as India recorded 435 new deaths, taking the death toll in India to 130,070.

India’s tally reached 8,845,127, as 30,548 new cases were registered across the country, according to the latest data released by the federal health ministry.

Confirmed cases in Indonesia rose by 3,535 within one day, to 470,648, with the death toll adding by 85 to 15,296, the health ministry said.

According to the ministry, 3,452 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 395,443.

The Department of Health (DOH) of the Philippines reported 1,738 new confirmed cases, bringing the total number in the country to 409,574.

The DOH said 45 more patients recovered, raising the total number of recoveries to 374,366. The death toll climbed to 7,839, after seven more patients died.

Malaysia reported 1,103 new infections, the health ministry said, bringing the national total to 48,520.

Health Ministry Director-General, Noor Hisham Abdullah, said that, one of the new cases is imported and 1,102 are local transmissions.

Four more deaths have been reported, bringing the death toll to 313.

South Korea reported 223 more cases as of midnight Sunday compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 28,769.

Of the new cases, 79 were Seoul residents and 39 were people residing in Gyeonggi province. Thirty were imported, lifting the combined figure to 4,166. One more death was confirmed, leaving the death toll at 494. The total fatality rate stood at 1.72 percent.– NNN-XINHUA
